Pearl Care Information
As an organic jewel, pearls can last a lifetime with proper maintenance. It's crucial to take good care of your pearls if you want to keep their beauty and lustre for many generations to come.
What to Watch Out For When Wearing Pearls
- Chemicals included in cosmetics, sunscreen, perfume, and hair spray can significantly reduce a pearl's lustre. Prior to donning your pearls, it's imperative that you apply your cosmetics and perfume. It is therefore advised to put pearls on at least 30 minutes after using any personal care products and to take them off before getting ready for bed.
- Avoid any circumstance that might nick or harm the nacre of the pearl.
- When wearing or keeping your pearls, stay away from acids. Using inks, bleaching agents, cleaning products like ammonia or chlorine, or acids like vinegar can all harm pearls.
Simple Steps for Pearl Protection
- After wearing the pearls, wipe them down with a damp, soft cloth to remove any potentially damaging substances that could ruin the nacre of your pearls.
- Clean your pearls with mild soap and water (we recommend using organic or delicate soaps), then let them air dry on a soft cloth. (AVOID using soaps that are loaded with chemicals.)
- To avoid scratching, always keep pearls apart from other hard jewellery pieces like rings and bracelets.
- Put your pearls in a jewellery box with a soft inside or a soft-cloth purse.
- Never keep your pearls in an enclosed space, such as a zip-top bag. Your pearls might become dehydrated as a result, which could lead to minute surface fractures.
